"Call the Shots" is the seventeenth single by the British girl group Girls Aloud, and the second to be taken from their fourth studio album Tangled Up. The single will be released on November 26 2007.[1]
Release and reception
The single leaked weeks before its radio premiere. Despite this, a 30-second clip appeared on the Girls' official website, with the radio premiere occuring on BBC Radio 1's The Chris Moyles Show on 16 October 2007.[2] They will be performing and chatting to Jonathan Ross on Friday 2nd November and performing the single on The X Factor on 17 November.[3]
Cheryl Cole told the Daily Star that the song is her favourite from the new album, and that it "gives me goosebumps".[4] Kim Dawson, a writer for the same publication, said that it was "one of their best yet".[5]
The song has been described as "mid-tempo and electro", with fans comparing it to the Sugababes' potential single "Never Gonna Dance Again" and Girls Aloud's own recording "Singapore", both of which were produced by Xenomania as well. [original research?]
Music video
The video was filmed in Malibu, California, and features the girls in purple dresses performing on Malibu Beach at night with flames surrounding them.[6] The girls are also shown in different locations, with Cheryl looking out of a window, Kimberley putting make-up on, Nadine on her couch, Nicola by a swimming pool and Sarah watching her boyfriend in the shower.
The video was directed by Sean de Sparengo, who previously directed Take That's video for "I'd Wait for Life".
The video premiered on The Box, Smash Hits! TV and The Hits on October 17 2007.[7][8]
