The river East Lyn rises high in Exmoor, Somerset. It is popular for walkers with a path running along much of the river, and whitewater kayakers seeking a challenging Grade 4 paddle.

The river starts as Badgeworthy Water and soon makes confluence with Hoar Oak Water at Watersmeet, where Watersmeet House is located, it then continues on until it passes Brendon and is squeezed between a narrow gorge section, upon exit after another 2.5 miles (4 kilometres) the river meets with the West Lyn and flows into the sea at Lynmouth.
