Attention:

This IP address, 62.171.198.36, is registered to UK Internet for Learning and is shared by multiple users. Comments left on this page may be received by other users of this IP and appear to be irrelevant. Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking. In the event of vandalism from this address, efforts will be made to contact UK Internet for Learning to report abuse.

If you are an unregistered user operating from this address, note that this need not necessarily be the IP address of your machine. In many cases, it turns out to be the IP address of a proxy server that communicates between your browser and the Wikimedia servers. Such proxies are shared among a huge number of users compared to the number of persons using your particular machine. If you are frustrated by irrelevant comments appearing here, you can avoid them by creating an account for yourself. However, you will still be unable to edit Wikipedia while the IP you are using is blocked.

  • The rest of us don't find it fair that a few people from your school, and many others, cause a project like this to need other people to go round and clear up after the mess and vandalism that users at your school leave behind. What you can do if you feel victimised by this is to take a note of when edits were made from this page, correlate it with whichever users are doing the edits, and report them including the edit history and evidence that they were the ones using the computers, to your staff. Otherwise, those users will continue to be vandals, and those of us who revert that vandalism will more happily see a reduction in vandalism and better use for our own time, even if it means some valid contributions are delayed.
If you feel unfairly treated, then do something about it. I don't know if usernames work through an IP block; but getting something done about the vandalism will make us all happier. --User:Firien § 13:10, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ask your IT manager to look at his browsing records and punish the offending users according to school / college policy. Once offending users have been dealt with the Sys admin can make an unblock request however from personal experience of this user base I would recommend blocking all anonymous edits from this IP permanently. This IP has been repeatedly blocked from editing Wikipedia in response to abuse of editing privileges. Further abuse from this IP may result in an immediate block without further warning.

Thanks for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks. -- The Anome 13:50, Mar 23, 2005 (UTC)

Please stop vandalising wikipedia.--Silversmith 11:02, 3 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. --Firien 12:38, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • A talk page is primarily for others to be able to get in contact with a user, to discuss edits; this includes asking the user to stop vandalising pages. A such, it acts as a repository of previous requests, so that if further vandalism occurs it's possible to gauge how destructive the user is being. As you might expect, if someone is a known vandal, the admins will be less lenient when considering a temporary block.
Emptying this talk page wipes the slate clean; however, your history does not justify this, so I'm putting it back. The community here would happily welcome you if you made positive contributions rather than negative and rubbish contributions; you might find this easier if you created a username and logged in, which would give you a clean history and a clean talk page; I believe admins can still read your IP and compare to this page, so further negative contributions under different pseudonyms (called "sockpuppetry") would take this IP's contribution history into account, though there's complications on shared computers etc etc.
In summary: your negative contributions so far have caused the responses above, and will continue to cause similar responses if you continue to make negative contributions. However if you intend to make useful edits to Wikipedia, adding useful content where possible and expanding the depth and breadth of information supplied, then we happily welcome you! I'm attaching the standard {{subst:welcome}} boilerplate below, which contains useful things like guidelines on how to write clear and informative articles. --Firien 09:49, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
