Palu is a city on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, located at 0°54′S 119°50′E / 0.900°S 119.833°E. It is the capital of the province of Central Sulawesi (Sulawesi Tengah).
Events
On 23 January 2005 at 20:10 UTC, an earthquake with magnitude 6.2 Richter scale occurred in the city. The hypocenter of the earthquake was at 1.03°S, 119.99°E, some 16 km southeast of Palu at the depth of 30 km of Bora Village's hot spring, Biromaru sub-district, Donggala regency. Panic ensued as most people seeked refuge in the highlands for fear of a repeat of the tsunami as occurred in Aceh. The earthquake resulted in at least one casualty and 177 buildings destroyed.
