Warriors is a series of fantasy novels written by Kate Cary and Cherith Baldry, with their editor Victoria Holmes, under the pen name Erin Hunter, that follows the adventures of various wild cats as they try to survive in their forest homes. The series is divided up into three miniseries with six books in each series. The first of these miniseries, usually referred to as the Original Warriors, was published in 2003, beginning with the book Into the Wild. The second series was written under the title Warriors: The New Prophecy and published in 2005. The first book was called Midnight. The first book of the third series Warriors: The Power of Three, The Sight, was added to shelves on April 24, 2007.

Another book, Secrets of the Clans, was released early in 2007. This provides information about the Clans never known before. Firestar's Quest was released on August 21st, 2007.[1] A three volume manga series is being printed as well. The title of the first volume is The Lost Warrior, and the book was released on the same day as The Sight.[2] The second volume, Warrior's Refuge, will be released on December 26, 2007[3], and the second book of Power of Three, Dark River, will be released December 26, 2007.[4]

Books in the series

Warriors: Original series

The first series follows the adventures of Rusty, a young house cat who is taken into ThunderClan as an apprentice with the new name Firepaw. As the series progresses, he goes on to become a warrior named Fireheart, Clan deputy, and eventually a very successful Clan leader known as Firestar.

Warriors: The New Prophecy

The second series is centered around seven cats from all four different Clans; the ThunderClan representative Brambleclaw, the ShadowClan representative Tawnypelt, the WindClan representative and apprentice Crowpaw, the RiverClan representative Feathertail, Feathertail's brother Stormfur, the ThunderClan apprentice Squirrelpaw, and her sister, Leafpaw. As the series progresses, six of the cats find a new home for their Clans and guide them there. It also follows Leafpaw's life as a medicine cat apprentice. It takes place roughly one year after The Darkest Hour. It takes a while to get caught up on that one year, and the main character is no longer Firestar, like in the original series, but told by the 3rd person viewpoint of Brambleclaw (Midnight, Sunset) who was formerly known as Bramblepaw in the original series, Squirrelpaw (Dawn, Twilight, Starlight) Leafpaw (all), Feathertail (Moonrise) and Stormfur (Moonrise) .

Warriors: Power of Three

The third series follows three young cats named Hollypaw, Jaypaw, and Lionpaw, grandchildren of both Tigerstar and Firestar, sons and daughter of Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight. It takes place roughly six months after Sunset, and is about the prophecy: There will be three, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the stars in their paws.

Warriors editor Victoria Holmes announced the title of the fourth Power of Three book during her October tour. The original title given on the second day of the tour was Shadow of the Stars, but she has since stated that the title has changed, and the working title is now Eclipse.

Warriors: Fourth Series

Vicky Holmes has confirmed on her first tour of the United States and at a Wands and Worlds that there is to be a fourth series. Currently, it is planned to be the last of the main series.[5] Nothing else is known about these books at the moment.

Warriors: Super Edition

  • Firestar's Quest

Warriors: Field Guides

  • Secrets of the Clans
  • Cats of the Clans
  • Code of the Clans

Warriors: Manga

There is a three volume manga series based on what happened to Graystripe between the time that he was taken by Twolegs in Dawn until he returned to ThunderClan in The Sight.

As revealed by Vicky Holmes during her October 2007 tour of the United States, one of the future manga will focus on the BloodClan leader Scourge. The title was confirmed on the Library of Congress website.[6]

Warriors play

Written by Vicky Holmes for a tour, a play entitled After Sunset: We Need to Talk was first premiered on April 28, 2007 at the Secret Garden bookstore in Seattle, Washington. It details a meeting between Leafpool of ThunderClan and Crowfeather of WindClan after the events of Sunset. The script was released to the public at www.warriorcats.com, the official site for the Warriors series.[7]

Warriors movie

There are currently no planned Warriors movies or plans to make any, despite common rumors that have spread across the Warriors community.[8]

As her answer to the main question of a movie possibility, Victoria Holmes replied:

Okay, this is a really important issue to clear up. I'm sorry to say that there are NO plans for a Warriors movie, even though we have had lots and lots of discussions with major film companies about this. This isn't to say that there will NEVER be a Warriors movie, but please don't get your hopes up! The reason for this is that the animated movies around at the moment tend to be larger-than-life, laugh-out-loud family films that adults can laugh at as well as kids - think Shrek or Cars. A Warriors movie would be much more serious, dealing with big issues like death and loyalty, which doesn't translate well to conventional animation just now. It might fit with a manga-style approach, but there isn't a mainstream market for this in the film world just yet. So we'll have to keep our fingers crossed![9]
