Anthony Carelli
This guy is a champion and should be respected as such, all Hail Anthony Carelli intercontinetal champion of the world! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 222.153.207.96 (talk • contribs).
- How can he be referred to as Italian in the article when he's from New York? EDIT: Thanks to whoever cleaned that up. MichaelBlankley 01:40, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- Considering his last name I'm going to go out on a limb and say that maybe he has Italian heritage? --The Lone Bard 01:42, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- :: I was just commenting on a change that was obviously made by someone who was a little too excited. It was changed. --MichaelBlankley 01:45, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure that saying he is the first "fan" to win a WWE Championship is necessarily factual. I removed it, as it is not necessarily a fact or accomplishment. --Okuzaone
he isnt heel he is just "in love"
- What you say is true, but he is the first man to win the Intercontinental Championship in his WWE debut match. This is not to be confused with Carlito, who won the Intercontinental Championship in his debut ON RAW, not in WWE. WikiWikiBoi 21:50, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
He was born on March 14th, 1974. Born in Mississauga, Canada (just outside toronto)
"Carelli is actually Canadian, but can speak Italian." (Direct quote from the April 23, 2007 issue of Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer Newsletter. It is on page 15.)

Propose Name Change?
I think we should change the name of the page from Johnny Basco > Santino Marella. Any thoughts? ----Belevsquad 04:05, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Why is it at Johnny Basco at all? He isn't particularly famous under that name, it should be under his real name. Tino 06:00, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- A user screwed up the article by moving it multiple times and then copying the article back here. Now the entired edit history of the article up until 3 hours ago is located at Johhny Brisco. I have asked an admin if they could merge the edit histories so it can be fixed. TJ Spyke 06:49, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
I would prefer it if we kept the article titled by his real name. Govvy 10:11, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
This is not Oleg Prudius
Is this same guy who talk like Russian at ECW, Smackdown, Raw, and say "DOUBLEDOUBLE E"? He sit at ringside watch show and say he beat everybody in doubledouble E and he love America? 64.241.230.3 15:22, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
Nope, it's a different guy! Govvy 16:54, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for answer question. 64.241.230.3 18:11, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
WOW if you thoght this was Oleg Prudius you were way off. And, your welcome.76.110.82.251 23:26, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Gorilla Monsoon refernce
I added this to the page but it was reverted
"The given surname "Marella" is a reference to WWE legend Gorilla Monsoon whos real name was Robert Otto Marella."
However Gorilla Monsoons page also mentions that Santinos surname is a tribute to him. Surely there should be the same rule for both page - both with the fact, or both without.
- Indeed they should, removed from there.«»bd(talk stalk) 19:37, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
Championship Confusion
In the article it states that he had won the OVW TV Championship, but at the bottom it has him as the OVW Heavyweight Champ. Could somone fix it.
- I changed it. Before, it used to say the TV Title. Possibly an act of vandalism. - Deep Shadow 14:27, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Finisher
whats this guy's finisher?
- It's already listed on the page, as Santino Marella he uses a roll-up of some sort.
- He has yet to win a match with something that's not a Roll-Up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zack Shadow (talk • contribs) 04:27, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Hometown
The article says he's from New York, United States. Do we know what city? Calgary 15:41, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Pattison, New Jersey 74.101.41.27 14:16, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- The Santino Marella character is from Patterson, New Jersey, not Carelli. Calgary 21:38, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Heel Turn
guys i think he turned heel on the july 30th edition of Raw where he was talking in a mad state LOL J.C. 04:31, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- Being booed by the fans isn't really a heel turn. John Cena gets booed sometimes, and he's still a face. Talon Kelson 06:09, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- Marella has been showing signs of a heel turn recently. He has been venting his rage on the fans, and he's kind of been
abusingpossessive of Maria (shown on the "WWE Dating Game"). I do indeed think Marella is a heel now, and that should be mentioned in the article. MITB LS 06:19, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Actually I think Vengeance 2007 was a major turning point for his character. As the article mentions, he beat Umaga by disqualification with Umaga pretty much completely squashing him. The interesting thing, though, was the reaction by the crowd and Umaga to the beat-down.
Specifically, after Umaga was disqualified, he delivered his signature Samoan Spike to Marella's throat. The crowd was decidely behind Umaga during this, despite the heel-like attack, and Umaga, looking confused by the crowd reaction, then returned to the ring to deliver yet another post-match spike. By this point chants of Umaga's name could be heard as he left the ring, sticking out his tongue and roaring and such.
It was immediately following that pay-per-view that Santino started to display heel-like character qualities like whining about losing a match and cheating to help Maria win matches, etc. While there's no way to confirm what the WWE bookers said backstage, I certainly wouldn't be surprised if the crowd's reaction to Umaga beating up Santino was seen as a great opportunity to both turn Santino into a heel and Umaga into a face/tweener. (Umaga's face turn was somewhat cemented on last night's RAW, in fact.)
Such a face turn following unexpected crowd reactions at a pay-per-view isn't unprecedented. Another example was Mickie James, who was portrayed as a "crazy" heel up until Wrestlemania 22. At that Wrestlemania the crowd was solidly behind "heel" Mickie the entire match. And sure enough, shortly following that pay-per-view, Mickie's character began to evolve into a face.
Anyway, heel/face turns are usually planned pretty well in advance. But sometimes unexpected crowd reactions seem to catalyze the process and can entice the bookers to quickly turn a wrestler from face to heel or vice versa. And I'm pretty sure that it was precisely that unexpected fan reaction that led to the rapid switch in both Santino's and Umaga's characters. Dugwiki 20:15, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
What do you mean Mickie slowly evolved into a face after the PPV? After Wrestlemania, she was portrayed as the Psycho Bitch of Psychos! remember? SHE DRESSED UP LIKE TRISH! -ChristoCracker 15:38, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Lost to Y2J
