Revision as of 02:02, 4 December 2007
This file has a non-free use rationale that is disputed because of the following concern: invalid rationale per WP:NFCC#10c The name of each article in which fair use is claimed for the item, and a separate fair-use rationale for each use of the item, as explained at Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline. The rationale is presented in clear, plain language, and is relevant to each use.. Unless this concern is addressed by correcting any shortcomings in the non-free use rationale (templates such as Template:Non-free use rationale can assist in this), the file will be deleted or removed from some uses after Tuesday, 11 December 2007. Please remove this template if you have successfully addressed the concern.Note that if you disagree with the shortcomings of the non-free use rationale as described above, please discuss the matter on the talk page, but do not remove this notice from files you have uploaded. Administrators: Check the image talk page for comments before deleting this file. Fair-use Rationale
The use of a low resolution version of this logo constitutes fair use in the Wikipedia article Toriod Terror because:
- This image is necessary to describe the visual theme of the FIRST robotics Competition in 1997-1998.
- The low resolution nature of the image prevents reuse which could infringe on the commercial benefit of the copyright owner;
- FIRST is a not for profit charity which will not be harmed by featuring this image on Wikipedia.
- The image and the organization it represents are critically discussed by the article;
- This image couldn't be recreated as a free image;
Licensing
This is a copyrighted image that has been released by a company or organization to promote their work or product in the media, such as advertising material or a promotional photo in a press kit. The copyright for it is most likely owned by the company who created the promotional item or the artist who produced the item in question; you must provide evidence of such ownership. Lack of such evidence is grounds for deletion. It is believed that the use of some images of promotional material to illustrate:
qualifies as fair use under Copyright law of the United States. Any other usage of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content and Wikipedia:Publicity photos. Additionally, the copyright holder may have granted permission for use in works such as Wikipedia. However, if they have, this permission likely does not fall under a free license. Please note that our policy usually considers fair use images of living people that merely show what they look like to be replaceable by free-licensed images and unsuitable for the project. If this is not the case for this image, a rationale must be provided proving that the image provides information beyond simple identification or showing that this image is difficult to replace by a free-licensed equivalent. Commercial third-party reusers of this image should consider whether their use is in violation of the subject's publicity rights.
