Ryan Lissner (born October 17, 1989 in Elizabeth Vale, South Australia) is said to be the next Len Doof (who is renowned for bringing the Christmas lights trend to Adelaide since the 1980's). From the age of 10, he has been fascinated with building and operating a Christmas lights display. Ryan is also known for his hypnosis weightloss method which aired on Today Tonight several times in 2005/2006. With the help of hypnotist Graham Quinton and his grandpa Terry Lissner, Ryan has achieved his weightloss goals.
Private life
Ryan grew up in Salisbury East with his Great Grandma Beryl Hueppauff (now deceased) during his infanthood and later moved to live with his Grandparents Terry and Leonie Lissner in 1994. He went to Manor Farm Kindergarten for the first year and a half prior to beginning junior school.
Ryan currently attends Tyndale Christian School located in Salisbury East and has done so since the year 1995. In the year 2006, Ryan was recognised to have outstanding typing skills and was presented with the 2006 typing award for the area.
Ryans's Christmas Lights
Ryans Christmas Lights has been an annual tradition since 1999, however in recent years has become a year-long project. Like any major Christmas display, it consumes lots of time, effort, and money. Each year the display has become more popular among local residents, although in 2006, the display was titled South Australia's number one display for the year by Network Seven Adelaide. Below is a quick facts table containing information from several years ago to now:
Year | Light Count | AU$ Spent | PC Channels | Events |
---|---|---|---|---|
<2003 | 320 | $150 | - | - |
2004 | 1500 | $250 | - | Santa Appearances |
2005 | 3200 | $1070 | 7 | Newspaper & Television Sighting Computerisation Started |
2006 | 6700 | >$900 | 14 | Television Sighting Rated #1 In State Vandals Attack |
2007 | 20,000 | $2100 | 56 | LED MegaTree (1500 Lights) |
Ryan treats his display has his most important hobby in life, and now even connects local displays together with the introduction of a 'route' known as the Christmas Lights Adventure. However the project has been renamed to 'Light Up Emerald' this year as Ryan works more closely with neighbouring houses situated on Emerald Street in Salisbury East.
