Derrick Comedy is an Internet sketch comedy group from New York University (NYU). The group has a large Youtube following and was mentioned in Rolling Stone in July of 2007.[1]

History

Dominic Dierkes, Dan Eckman, Donald Glover and DC Pierson began writing and performing sketches together in 2003. As part of the NYU sketch group Hammerkatz NYU, they directed and co-wrote six sketch revues that they performed at several colleges, as well as the National College Comedy Festival. As part of the spin-off sketch group Wicked Wicked Hammerkatz, the Derrick members wrote and performed in three sketch revues at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.

Derrick split off from Hammerkatz in early 2006. Members of Derrick have appeared on television in Sketch Cram (a TBS pilot), The Nighttime Clap on Fuse and Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and MTV, and developed a pilot for Comedy Central.[2][3][4]

Eckman is the Video Production Director for Blue Man Group, while Glover currently writes for NBC's 30 Rock.

The group name is a inside joke, because all the members' (except for Meggie) first name starts with the letter D. They decided to add Derrick as a joke, not referring to Dominic's last name, Dierkes.
