It would be really great if this page would explain if X Windows system allows for a X application to show up on the Mac desktop just like any other "native" application. X11.app required

Certain applications require X11.app (or other X Window compatibility) to run on Mac OS X. Some examples include:

Possssssssssssssibly. OTOH, the next version of GTK+ will apparently be Quartz-native, meaning OOo and Gimp won't need X11. (The Quartz code is alpha-to-early-beta at present, meaning apps using it will sometimes actually start before crashing ;-) - David Gerard 13:50, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

imo including a list like that is opening a can of worms.. there are lots of X apps.

X.org?

The general trend for other distros is to move away from XFree86 towards X.org, mostly because that is where all the active extension development is occurring. What are Apple's future plans for X11.app? --IanOsgood 03:18, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
