Story
Sehar’s (Ayesha Takia) world turns topsy-turvy when she gets a clue about the missing Sunday of her life, which points to a possible violent attack on her. A.C.P Rajveer (Ajay Devgan) takes up the case to sort out the complicated and jumbled up threads of Sehar’s life.
In the process of solving Sehar’s case it comes to light that on Sunday, different people interacted with her and amongst them, one could be the accused. The lot included Ballu (Arshad Warsi), the taxi driver and his friend, Kumar (Irrfan Khan), a struggling NSD actor, Ritu (Anjana Sukhani), Sehar’s close friend, a scary and suspicious character who resides in Sehar’s society, and the group whom she had come across while partying at the discotheque.
While trying to solve the puzzle, Rajveer stumbles upon a murder case whose clues hold up Sehar to be the culprit.
Production
The shooting began from March 10, 2007, first few days of shooting happened in Mumbai and than a 30 days schedule in Delhi from 18 March. The second and last schedule started from 22nd May, 2007 in Delhi and then continued in Mumbai and later in Hyderabad. Lastly a song was shot in Australia and the shooting was completed by 13 July 2007.
The movie has been shot at popular places in the capital like Pragati Maidan, Lal Qila, India Gate, Connaught Place and others. The movie has also been shot at studios like Filmalaya, Filmcity, Kamalistan Studios etc.
Trivia
- The movie is said to be inspired by a Telugu movie Anukokunda Oka Roju.
- Due to rain in Mumbai at the time of shooting, they had to shift a song shooting to Hyderabad. The song itself had a set cost of 8 millions and shifting 600 crew members and dancers to Hyderabad cost big time.
- Ayesha Takia plays a dubbing artist for cartoon characters in the film. For her voice modulation she was trained by Vikas Kadam, who apparently trained Tusshar Kapoor for Golmaal . Tusshar played 'dumb' in the film and his performance was highly appreciated. With so many animated films being made in India these days, Ayesha sure has an alternative career thanks to this training workshop.
- It's well known among circles that Ajay Devgan is indeed a brilliant cook and that cooking is quite stress buster for the actor. It was when the Sunday team was shooting in Chandni Chowk, Delhi that temperatures were soaring – all of 47 degrees - and Ajay was at his experimental best. He wanted to learn if the heat was enough to make an omlette. He organized for an egg, but at the end of it all, all he managed was a half fry. This did attract crowds who were intrigued by Devgan's curiosity levels and kitchen know-how as much as they were by his acting talents.
- According to Ayesha Takia, this is her first Commercial film where she is doing a Performace Oriented Role. She said in an interview, "I have a fabulous role in Sunday with plenty of scope to perform".
- Actor Arshad Warsi will be seen in a different light in this film. We hear, that the natural actor-dancer got so excited when he heard that he had to do an action sequence that he went beserk practicing for it. Apparently, Arshad was at it since 9 am to 12 midnight. Now that's what we call action round the clock.
- The movie has two item numbers, One is Kashmakash picturised on Esha Deol which is sung by Shibani Kashyap and the other one on Tusshar Kapoor sung by Raghav Sachar. The cost of both the songs are said to be around 3.25 crore.
- It's become a fad these days to have multiple music directors work for one film, and director Rohit Shetty roped in as many as five music directors for Sunday – Sandeep Chowta, Raghav Sachar, Shibani Kashyap, Daler Mehndi and Suroor. "Different songs require different ingredients and skills, which are best brought together by different people. Every song required something unique, and that's the reason we roped in five music directors," says Rohit.
- Two music videos has been shot, one with Pakistani band Suroor along with Ajay Devgan and Ayesha Takia on the song Pyar To Hona Hi hain and the other one with Shibani Kashyap on the remix version of Kashmakash.
