Benjamin Green Armstrong

He was born on July 4th, 1820 in Alabama and died on August 1st, 1900. On February 10, 1850 Benjamin married Charlotte Medweigwan, daughter of Chief Buffalo and Magdalena Medweigwan. Chief Buffalo was the first Chief of the La Pointe Band of Chippewa. The two had seven children.

Benjamin was a well known interpreter for Chief Buffalo and also his adopted son. He accompanied the Chief to Washington D.C. where they made a treaty with President Fillmore, countermanding the order for removal of Indians from the area of the Wisconsin Territory in 1852. Benjamin returned to Washington DC in the year 1862 with another delegation which met with the President Lincoln and the Indian commissioner. After two days, President Fillmore made his decision: The Ojibwe would not be forced to leave.

427 Special Operations Aviation Squadron

The 427 Special Operations Aviation Squadron (427 SOAS) provides Canadian Special Operations Forces Command with an aviation capability to all units under it's command. The Squadron is based at CFB Petawawa, Ontario with a fleet of CH-146 Griffon helicopters. It is the Canadian equivalent of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.

Ira Fusfeld

Ira Fusfeld has been publisher of the Daily Freeman and Sunday Freeman of Kingston, N.Y. since 1987, rising through the ranks from sports writer, to sports editor, to editor, to general manager and finally to publisher in a career with the Freeman that began in 1970. He is also publisher of Las Noticias, a Spanish language weekly newspaper for the Mid-Hudson Valley, and of the Taconic Press, Millbrook, N.Y., which produces eight weekly community newspapers in Dutchess and Putnam counties, as well as Dutchess Magazine, the Westchester County Times and the Hudson Valley Guide. Ira is the senior publisher of Journal Register Company's Mid-Hudson cluster of newspapers and other publications. In 2001, he was named Publisher of the Year by the Journal Register Company.

A New York City native, Ira is a graduate of the State University of New York at New Paltz. He has been a member of numerous civic and professional organizations, among them the New York Newspaper Publishers Association, of which he served as chairman of the board of directors and chairman of its legislative committee, and is presently a member of its Foundation. He served on the boards of Ulster County Economic Development Corp., the Management Council of the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corp., and Mid-Hudson Pattern for Progress. In addition he has been a member of the College Council at SUNY New Paltz and the Communications Advisory Council of Ulster County Community College. He is a past trustee of the SUNY New Paltz Foundation, of which he was chairman. He has been a vice chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of Ulster County and a member of the board of the United Way of Ulster County.

Ira and his wife, Eileen, reside in Woodstock, N.Y.. They have two grown sons and one granddaughter.

Shady Spring High School

In the fall of 1966, students entered the new Shady Spring High School located in Shady Spring, WV. The school has the capacity for 750 students. The site for the school is 27 acres, 70,008 sq. ft. Total cost for the new school was $1,230,480. Shady Spring High School offers a comprehensive curriculum, featuring college preparatory, vocational-agriculture, vocational-technical, and fine arts programs. Shady High offers a variety of basic and elective courses, but is small enough to provide students with individual attention and a comfortable atmosphere. Students have a variety of extracurricular activities to choose from including many clubs, organizations, and sports. Our band, yearbook, and newspaper annually are among the best in the state and have won many awards.

British Rail Class 37, 37717

Introduction

Class 37/7 37717 is a 37/7 varient of the British Rail Class 37.

History

37717 begain life as D6750 on the 24-08-62 when released from English Electric. It was first allocated to Darnall. TOPS renumbering in 1973 gave it the number 37050. It worked on the GEML for another 11 years until 1984 when it was tranferred to Immingham.

EWS Period

In 1996, EWS took over the three privatised frieght companies and Rail Express Systems. This meant that 37717 became an EWS locomotive. It worked solidly for EWS for nearly 8 years until December 2003 when it was stored as a tatical reserve.

The Future

37717 never worked for EWS again after it was stored, and in late 2007, was tendered for saile along with 27 other locomotives. [[West Coast Railway Company bought 37717 along with several other 37's and it is likely that it will be returned to service.
