My Trach Massacre (Vietnamese: Thảm sát Mỹ Trạch) was a massive murder of French army during French occupation of Vietnam. This massacre incurred in My Trach Village, My Thuy Commune, Lệ Thủy District, Quang Binh Province, Bac Trung Bo, Vietnam from 2 am to 12 pm on 29 November, 1947. In this opration, 326 houses were burnt, many women were raped before being murdered. Over 300 civilian residents in My Trach Village were killed, of which, 170 were women, 157 children. Many whole families were totally murdered.
The location of the massacre was in the foot of My Trach Bridge, a bridge on North-South Railway, next to My Trach Railway Station. Those victims were forced to the foot of the bridge and to be lined before being killed with machine guns. No one of these people survived the murder.
Nearly half of the village residents were killed in this massacre. Every year, 29 November is regarded the “Hatred Date” of the residents in this village.
The memorial park in with the memorial stele was located is classified by the Ministry of Culture of Vietnam as the National Historical Relics of Vietnam on 27 December 2001.[1]
