Tibet Controversy?
Should we mention his standpoint that Tibet should be a part of China? It earned a lot of controversy, with people calling him a proponent of Chinese colonialism.
Photograph
I am not sure if the photograph can be used. I could not find the author of the photograph. --Sp0 01:13, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- I deleted the photograph. Maybe you can find one that is public domain. Sp0 01:44, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Chinese-American?
In the introduction, Jet Li is described as Chinese-American, but there is no reference to dual nationality in the article. Is he not simply "Chinese"? Shinji nishizono 23:01, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Jackie chan movie
If he's quitting martial arts movies, why is he planning a movie with jackie chan? 70.64.128.194
- He is quitting the "Period" martial arts films where he shaves his scalp, dons the Queue ponytail whig and wears old-style clothing. He will still do martial arts in "action" films. (!Mi luchador nombre es amoladora de la carne y traigo el dolor! 03:16, 4 October 2006 (UTC))
- "Jackie Chan and Jet Li are scheduled to begin filming The Forbidden Kingdom together in May 2007" - date in the past. Must be updated? :) (84.32.130.211 10:29, 28 October 2007 (UTC))
Monk Story
The reason I deleted the Monk story. [1]
the link above does not go to a reason for deleting the Monk story. It goes to a forum of posts...please post a direct link or explain here.
His Name
His name is not 李連傑. If you do google on his name, the wrong name will show up more than his correct name because google picked up via erroneous Simplified Chinese to Traditional Chinese conversion. The result is unreliable when you reverse a many-to-one mapping.
- What do you mean that's not his name? 傑 is the traditional character for 杰. Illusionz 03:39, 11 September 2005 (UTC)
- 杰 is also a traditional character sharing the same pronouciation as 傑. 杰 is his name. As original poster mentioned, google is not very reliable here as it changes the simplified to traditional wrongly. novacatz 05:06, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
- Simplified Chinese often maps multiple Traditional characters (distinct meanings) into the same simplified character (overloading several definitions). Jet Li's name is one of these examples. Google uses some kind of auto convertor software to convert between TC and SC. It is safe going from TC to SC because it is a many-to-One mapping. However, it is often erroneous in the SC to TC conversion because a one-to-many mapping is ambiguous. A TC->SC->TC round trip oftens alter the original meaning of the TC text. Zhang Sanfeng is another example, where the meaning of his name was changed from beautiful to bountiful after the SC to TC conversion. Kowloonese 20:58, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
He has a web site and his name is stated as follows- Li Lian Jie (Mandarin), Li Lin Kit (Cantonese). He rocks no matter what language!
- Jet Li's name appears to be 李連杰. See Yahoo! Taiwan: [[2]]
Own Stunts?
The little bit about Fong Sai Yuk is sort of wrong. Jet can't really do much of his own stunts. After he got injured during Once Upon a Time in China he has stayed away from doing stunts. Back in the days he could do those things, but you wont see him even doing simple falls.
I'm going to defend my one billion Chinese countrymen
Once, as a child, when the Chinese National Wushu Team went to perform for President Richard Nixon in the United States, Jet Li was asked by Nixon to be his personal bodyguard, to which Li replied, "I'm going to defend my one billion Chinese countrymen," which earned him much respect in his homeland.
This anecdote sounds very suspicious...China's population wasn't one bilion in his youth (presumably in the 1970s), and would a hardline American Nixon really place his hopes on an untested Chinese Communist youth over his Secret Service and other US personnel?
Sounds suspiciously propagand-ish.
- I've decided to be bold and remove the disputed statement. If someone wants it back - find a source. It also does not really belong in the 'career' section anyway. novacatz 07:09, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
- I turned it back. --Repli cant 03:46, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Whoa, I bet you that if Jet Li became Richard Nixon's bodygaurd, then it pretty much would have been the movie Unleashed, but in real life. -Eric Lim
Missing Films?
- It seems to me that there are a few films missing from the list. Does anybody know about his films Defender (I think it's called that), Twin Warriors and The Legend series?
"Defender" is a retitle of Bodyguard from Beijing, "Twin Warriors" a retitle of Taiji Master and the "Legends" are the Fong Sai Yuk-films.
Thanks for clearing that up! It might be a good idea to put 'aka's by some film names then. I'll try to do that when I've got time. Dragonfly888 21:27, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
yea you do that. me too..i was wondering where did they go, i was about to do some editing:D. Any way you should also put Rise To Honor, because the game is also about Jet Li, infact Jet Li played the voice, if you check Movie Database you will see the game is also mentioned in one of Jet li's work:D >x<ino 04:28, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
CCP related beliefs?
Should there be some mention of Jet Li's take on and participation in the Chinese Communist Party or his various political beliefs in this article? --NEMT 22:28, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
- I'd be curious what he thinks of the country that counts him a "national treasure." The making-of included on the U.S. Fearless DVD claims he is a Tibetan Buddhist, having studied at one point under the Dalai Lama. This would seem to put him at odds with official government policy. Where does he actually stand in regards to the PRC, and has he ever made his views public? --65.96.190.159 08:05, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Career as an actor
The above paragraphs are incorrect and should be re-written. "During an interview with Chinese newspaper Nanfang Daily, Jet Li said he would no longer making any more wushu movie because, what he wanted to say about wushu through movies had all been said. There was nothing more to say about wushu, in another word, he could no longer show wushu on a higher level. But, he would continue doing action movies and kung fu movies. His words were misinterpreted by the media. He said action, kung fu and wushu were three different concepts. His The Tai-Chi Master was a movie about a man reaching a new state through wushu. Action movies, as well as kung fu movies, only took the form of wushu." http://www.monkeypeaches.com/fearless.html —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sunawave (talk • contribs) 02:17, April 18, 2006.

Games
Shouldn't there be a info about Jet Lie staring in a game!? "Rise to Honor"
Matrix
Under the trivia it says that Jet Li turned down the role in the Matrix series BECAUSE the Wachowski brothers admired him. Is this right? That really doesn't make sense because wouldn't an actor be more willing to take a role if he knew the directors were inspired by him?
I tried to reword it, replacing the 'since' with 'despite the fact that', I'm not sure if I've improved the situation though. --Hydraton31 17:15, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- I've *heard* he asked for too much money but I have never read any newspaper articles or cited documents to this effect. The changet from because to despite is sufficient in any case ::::Piepants
Martial Arts Of Shaolin
is there any reason the Martial Arts Of Shaolin documentary isnt mentioned in this article? --AlexOvShaolin 01:55, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- Because this article is about Jet Li? Neal 14:52, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
About Li's first wife
Before I make this change I better discuss it. The article points to Huang Qiuyan as his first wife but that is incorrect. Huang Qiuyan born 1980 is a chinese athlete and triple jump record holder. His first wife has the same name and was a Beijing Wushu Team member and actress. She and Li married 1987 divorced 1990 and had 2 children. For verification from Hong Kong cinemagic [3], and Jet Li online gallery [4] --Dakota 08:20, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
References
Can someone change this and remove everything after 2007, i dont seem to be able too:
"Huang Qiu Yan." Hong Kong Cinemagic. 13 Feb 2007.His is an asshole because everything that he has achieved up to now was given by Huan Qiu Yan but he left her for another asshole"

Nevermind found out how to remove it. Alcryt 12:24, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
what style of martial arts
I don't think this article clearly states what style of martial arts he practiced, does it? Tkjazzer 06:58, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- As he's chinese, I submit to you it's safe to presume he practiced Chinese martial arts. --NEMT 23:33, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- This is true, but specifically he was a Wushu (sport) competitor, which outlines several compulsory events he participated in. I believe his website has more on other events he did. VanTucky 23:49, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Wrong link?
If one clicks on "The Defender" link under his movies, it goes to some 2004 movie with white people...So I think that the link should be removed until someone makes a page for the actual Jet Li movie. Eellee 21:32, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
Date Links
Is in necessary to have every year linked to something? Are all the other movie articles the same? --Shannie 88 21:18, 5 August 2007 (UTC)-
Jet Li's illiteracy
Some newspapers have reported that Jet Li is in fact, illiterate - claiming that Andy Lau had to teach him his lines or something. Lau has later come out and denied that Li was illiterate, saying that the reports arose from a misunderstanding of joking remarks made on set about 'illiteracy' because both actors had some difficulty with ancient Chinese words (or classical Chinese) which are very different from modern Chinese. (Think of the relationship between Latin or Old English with modern English.) So, before anyone repeats this canard on wikipedia, I thought I would pre-empt it on Talk first.
Also, in the documentary on the making of 'Hero', Jet Li is seen reading his lines aloud from a script, and he is also filmed writing an aphoristic inscription in a neat calligraphic hand on the sword he used in the film. Neat writing and reading from the script? Hardly the behaviour of an unlettered man if you asked me. 220.255.113.58 05:54, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
