"Awakened" is an episode of The WB drama series, Charmed.

Synopsis

Piper orders Kiwano from outside the country, illegal fruit that gives her Oroya fever, a rare disease normally only seen in parts of South America. She is sent to the hospital, but slips into a coma as the disease progresses. With little hope for her recovery, Prue and Phoebe cast a spell to transfer the disease to a ninja doll, resulting in Piper's amazing recovery. But a side effect of the spell brings the ninja doll to life, who then infects several people with the disease by stabbing people with its blade. Piper insists that Prue and Phoebe have no choice but to reverse the spell, halting the spread of the disease but putting Piper back into a coma. As she dies with Dan, Prue, and Phoebe at her side, Leo heals her, disobeying his orders not to interfere.

• Dr. Curtis Williamson: Ever since Piper miraculously recovered from Oroya Fever, Dr. Curtis Williamson had been researching an antidote for the same. Whilst injecting chimps with blood samples taken from the sisters, he accidentally injected himself with a complete combination of their bloods, in the process gaining their powers. Realizing his abilities, Dr. Williamson began stealing organs (from criminals) to give to waiting organ transplant patients. Being only a mortal, in the end he couldn't handle the witches' powers, and they drove him insane. (Astral Monkey)

Spells

• Awakening Spell:ingredients: blood from the person the spell is being cast on, a poppet. place the poppet against the persons chest, and pour the blood onto the poppet, place one hand onto the poppet and one hand onto the person, say:

Troubled blood with sleep’s unease, remove the cause of this disease. Sleep eternal never more, and shift this source of illness borne. To this poppet, whom none shall mourn. to make a connection between the poppet and the person the send the disease into the poppet.

• To Reverse Awakening Spell:

What was awakened from its sleep, must once again slumber deep. Return the disease to whence it came, so life can ease back to the same.

Trivia

• This is the seventh and final appearance of Lochlyn Munro as Jack.
• This is the first episode where the sisters realize they can verbally summon Leo.
• Leo clips his wings to save Piper.
• Leo says he can't physically heal Piper because she wasn't hurt fighting evil. This proves to be just mandated by The Elders because later in the series, he does heal the Charmed Ones several times even if they were not hurt fighting evil. He was even able to mostly heal the half-demon/half-human Belthazor later in the third season.
• This is the second time that Piper dies, first time was in Déjà Vu All Over Again. Ironically the next time she will die, in All Hell Breaks Loose will be in a similar way. She will be in a hospital bed and the doctors will realize that she can not be revived. Prue will also be by her side then too.
• Prue and Phoebe's spell to save Piper backfires, which causes her to move at a very fast superhuman pace. This power is one that Piper actually could develop later in life as her powers affect movement and speed. She displays this power again in the episodes Witches in Tights and Gone with the Witches.
• While Piper is cleaning P3 with her superhuman speed, the lights speed up, as well. This is most likely a blooper, since she was probably supposed to be the only one moving.
• It is hinted that the Awakening Spell would have worked as planned if Phoebe had used a Poppet, as opposed to a Ninja Doll, as maintaining the Power of Three is not considered Personal Gain.
• Prue and Phoebe only recite the first part of the awakening reversal spell ("What was awakened from its sleep, must once again slumber deep") instead of the full spell ("What was awakened from its sleep, must once again slumber deep. Return the disease to whence it came, so life can ease back to the same").
• Prue learns to control her astral projection power at will to project to the house to look for the reversal to the Awakening spell.
• In this episode, Prue quits her job at Bucklands, showing the first sign since Morality Bites that the Charmed Ones are heading toward a different future, notably because Prue actually owned Bucklands in the future the sisters went to.
