The Victim.

James Seipei (a.k.a. "Stompie Moeketsi") was a 14 year old Soweto school kid ANC activist-come-police informant who was kidnapped after a school rally and illegally killed by Mrs Winnie Mandela's supposed soccer club, namely, the 'Winnie Mandela's football club', 0n the 29th of December, 1988.

Stompie Moeketsi Seipei was a committed ANC 'Young Lion' and had made an immense contribution in the mobilisation of Black youth in there struggle for freedom.

The crime.

Her bodyguard, Jerry Richardson (ANC), said that Winnie Mandela (Officaly called.- Nomzamo Winifred Sarah Zanyiwe Yamazonko Madikizela-Mandela, but often shortend to Winnie Mandela) ordered him to abduct and kill an alleged informer, James Seipei in December 1988.

Mr Jerry Richardson, one of the members of of Winnie Mandela bodyguard declared that she had given her bodyguard's assignment go out after four young men from Soweto to abduct and posibly even murder. Stompie was most vunrible since Stompie was the youngest. The four were severely beaten and Stompie's lifeless body was later recovered by the police.

The arftermath.

This incident became a cause célèbre for the apartheid government. In 1991, she was convicted of kidnapping and being an accessory to assault, but her six-year jail sentence was reduced to a fine and 2 years probation on appeal. In 1990 Winnie Mandela was two years conditionally and a fine for the kidnapping of Stompie Seipei, it was Richardson who was convicted of the murder! The Iconic, but sensitive status of Winnie Mandela in the West was dealt a heavy blow by this affair!

The appeal.

At her hearing, Mrs Mandela said allegations that she was involved in at least 18 human rights abuses including eight murders were "ridiculous" and claimed that her main accuser, former comrade Katiza Cebekhulu, was a former "mental patient" and his allegations against her were 'hallucinations'. Her six-year jail sentence was reduced to a fine and 2 years probation on appeal .
