The Devel Wears Prada (Also known as TDWP) is a Christian Metalcore band from Dayton, Ohio. They are currently signed to Rise Records and have
hit the charts on PureVolume and MySpace as a Christian Hardcore band.[1] [2][3]
There is a novel and film of the same name. The band was formed before the release of the movie with the same name. Although the band's inspiration for their name was from the book, they believe the meaning of it is why they chose it. As stated by vocalist Mike Hranica in the band's blog (www.myspace.com/tdwp):
"It's the same concept as our lyrics "emeralds hold no hope" and many many others. What we believe it to mean is that possessions don't matter at all and someday everyone will realize that this is true. When standing before God, He won't care about your sweet Prada scarf or Gucci shoes or whatever. It's a Christian reasoning for the name, we didn't name it to attempt at being fashionable or whatever."
The new album, titled Plagues, was released on August 21, 2007. A demo song called "Hey John, What's Your Name Again?" was placed on MySpace on July 1, 2007. On July 11, AbsolutePunk.net started to stream their song "Don't Dink and Drance." In a recent interview with East Coast Romper, the band states their influences as Underoath and Still Remains.
Influences
Some of the band's influences include Rage against the Machine, Chiodos, and As I Lay Dying, and Norma Jean from whom they've derived many of their musical sounds to create their unique style.
Videos
The band's first Plagues music video for the song "Hey John, What's Your Name Again?" debuted November 3rd, 2007 on MTV2's Headbanger's Ball.[4] Also, there is a music video for "Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over" from Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord, which can be found on their YouTube page.
Faith
"We've all accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior, and lead our lives based on that relationship with God. That being said, it is obviously going to have an impact on the music we make. We're not about disrespecting anybody or shoving our beliefs down anyone's throat, but we're also not going to deny the one thing we believe as the ultimate truth. I know Mike's lyrics are largely scripturally and spiritually based, and he can tell you more about that than I can. But I do know that I take comfort in the fact that in a scene so largely based around death, and morbidness, and negativity there are still bands that we play with all the time that look at things without those negative blinders on. We're just not about tearing people down, or lifting ourselves up, because none of that stuff really matters. All that being said, we love you no matter who you are, no matter what your beliefs or dis-beliefs are. We just ask for the same respect back. We are not ashamed to say that we're a Christian band. Every effort we make is for one reason, and one reason alone: our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. We support many bands with many different goals, but we feel that this is what God has called each of us to do. I don't expect everyone to agree with that, and that's fine, but I like to think of I Corinthians 10:31 'Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God'" - Jeremy DePoyster (guitars/vocals)
