V is Vanessa Hudgens's debut album, first released on September 26, 2006. Hudgens stated the title of the album stands for Vanessa, but also for variety, "because my album, in a way, is a mix" of pop, pop rock, dance electronic, and ballads.[1] Hudgens promoted the album when opening for The Cheetah Girls during their The Party's Just Begun Tour, and then promoted on the High School Musical Tour. The music video for the first single, "Come Back to Me", was played on major television stations, and the second single from the album, "Say OK", was premiered with two videos.
The album was first released in the U.S. on September 26, 2006; there were different editions issued, each containing thirteen or fourteen tracks with varying bonus tracks. A twelve-track version was then released internationally on November 28, 2006. The CD was then released on January 17, 2007 in Japan (sixteen tracks) and on March 17, 2007 in Australia (twelve tracks).
When the album was released in the U.S., it debuted on the Billboard 200 in early October 2006 at number twenty-four on the chart, with 34,000 copies sold that week.[2] The album was certified gold for shipments to retailers of 500,000 copies.[3] Although Hudgens's singles from V failed to chart in the UK, the album reached number seventy-one on the UK Albums Chart in December 2006.[4]
A music video for the track "Let's Dance" was used to promote the 2007 season of Dancing with the Stars. The video consists of footage of Hudgens performing "Let's Dance" on the High School Musical: The Concert tour combined with footage from the previous season of Dancing with the Stars.[5] "Let's Dance" was used for the North America server of the online dancing game Audition Online.[6]
