Rudolf Eric Koertzen (born March 26, 1949, Knysna, South Africa), popularly known as Rudi Koertzen, has been an international cricket umpire since 1992.

Koertzen's connection with cricket started as a fan, becoming a league cricket player in his younger years before moving on to umpiring in 1981. His first stand of umpiring in a test match came in the South Africa vs India series in 1992, which was also the first series to see the use of television replays for assisting umpiring decisions.

His distinctive combination of flat cap and dark glasses make him an instantly recognisable figure. He became a full-time ICC umpire in 1997, and a member of the elite panel of umpires in 2002. His abilities have seen him through some controversial moments, especially as regards approaches by people wishing to fix the results of matches in 1999.

In a 1999 world cup pool match between Defending Champions Pakistan and Australia, Rudi was a bit Umbrage of Shoaib akhtar.In one of his overs Shoaib had [Steve Waugh]] plum in front but Rudi did not give him out. Bill Lawry who was a Commentator during the match quoted saying "The ball was going to miss the off stump and leg stump and hit the middle stump".

During the semi-final match between Australia and Sri-lanka, Rudi won't give Adam Gilchrist out caught behind after the Sri-lankans appealed for it.But Adam left the field because he knew he was out and his respect for Cricketing rules.

In 2000-01 his mistakes added to one of the most irritable matches of contemporary times, the second Test between Sri Lanka and England at Kandy. Even so, he keeps the admiration of the players, and an interest that allows him to use more than 240 days of the year absent from his companion and four kids. Template:Cricket stub
