The vertical axis is unitless. It is the ratio of cross-sectional area along the cable divided by the cross-sectional area of the cable at the base of the cable. Thus the units would be area/area and so were omitted. As for a planner graph, the cross-section of the cable is given as a function of two variables, the strength/density of the material and the position along the cable. Thus it could be represented as two planner graphs or one 3D graph. |
