I just noticed the cover art was deleted due to a fair use rationale issue. Searching through logs, the old image didn't have a good explanation of its fair use. I uploaded the image again and added a fair use rationale using the appropriate templates with information commonly used in other video games cover art. Let's hope this time the image will stay in wikipedia. --[[User:LuisAugustoPeña|Luis Augusto Peña]] ([[User_talk:LuisAugustoPeña|talk]]) 15:19, 28 February 2008 (UTC) |
Revision as of 15:19, 28 February 2008
I haven't actually played the full version yet (it's sitting under the Christmas tree, though I'm not supposed to know that). I really enjoyed Dungeon Keeper though, and I liked the Startopia demo.
If you have played it, let me know what you think of it.
I think it's a great game - quite dungeon keeper like. It's one of those games that never got the publicity or sales it deserved. I noticed that Mucky Foot have now gone out of business - Startopia was their major project. Secretlondon 16:52, Dec 19, 2003 (UTC)
Absolutely brilliant game. If you like the demo you'll love the full version, with its richness of building types and gameplay. And it's virtually impossible to "lose" playing the sandbox missions, just setup and let it run :P --Jquarry 03:28, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Those who missed out of the game should head to Home of the Underdogs where it has been hosted as abadonware -Dynamo_ace
- Damn you're kidding! Do you know what grief I had to go thru to buy the game online in 2003.... Jquarry 23:29, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Screenshots/Box Art
This article could definitely use some screenshots! I have the full game so I wouldn't mind installing the old girl again to get some. There isn't enough room in the article to upload huge amounts, so what do you think would be best to take screenshots of? I'm talking features like the entertainment deck, blueprints, buildings or alien species.
Also missing is box art. I'm fairly new to Wiki, but I think there needs to be one of those "info boxes" for Startopia that gives more details about the game. This would of course include an image of the cover. --Film11 16:53, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
I think you can get the covers off Mobygames, otherwise you can search around for it, its bound to be on a shoping site or something.
And don't worry about screenshots, they are allowed on Wikipedia so you can upload them on the wikipedia server. -Dynamo_ace 18:19, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
Pictures (and...)
yea pictures would be good... im replaying it right now actually :P i'll remember to get a good screenshot of a biodeck in full swing and figure out how to upload it neatly onto the page
also i'm pretty sure the plural of karmarama would be karamaramas (and not karmaramans) but the strategy guide (external link at the bottom of the page) spells it like that as well, is this a regional version difference of the game maybe?
Cleaning Up
I propose that this article should be cleaned up a bit, just to make sure all the parts in it are factual and serious. The following points, I believe, are questionable and need citations.
- Referring to the Groulien Salt Hog's speech: however when translated into english has the distinct feel of a working class Yorkshire accent.
- Translated into English? How is this possible exactly, considering the language used is nothing but grunts and snorts.
- Referring to the appearance of the Dahanese Sirens: however the gender appearences are reversed as revealed by one of the developpers to a deeply shocked community
- Is this true? Once again citations are needed.
I'm sure those are only two points out of many, so it would be appreciated if anybody were to add to the discussion. --Film11 17:19, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
Clean Up Responce
Unfortunately I cannot provide evidence for this;
- Referring to the appearance of the Dahanese Sirens: however the gender appearences are reversed as revealed by one of the developpers to a deeply shocked community
- Is this true? Once again citations are needed.
As the developper quote was made in ye olde Eidos forums which were closed a good 4 years ago now and have since been deleted. --Arctic Wolf 20:39, 13 July 2006 (BST)
- What does this statement even mean anyway? ...gender appearences are reversed... It doesn't make any sense. Jquarry 23:27, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
- It means that the ones with breasts that look more like women are actually male. It's priceless telling people that. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Stu42 (talk • contribs) 22:42, 13 March 2007 (UTC).
Couple of minor race additions
Added the Memau and Skrasher to the minor races section, noticed they were missing (My first WP edit as well). Quinsisdos 22:20, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Abandonware?
Judging from the publishers website, would Startopia be classed as abandonware since its no-where in their games list (that I can find) and doesn't seem to be supportted anymore. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.139.250.173 (talk) 15:43, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- There is no legal definition of abandonware, thus I am not sure what the purpose of classifying it so. Eidos/SCI have certainly not given up any rights to the IP MrMarmite 15:52, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Startopia.jpg
Image:Startopia.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
