Episode 1: Erstes Casting, Emotion-Shooting und Phillip Plein Modenschau in Barcelona
- Title translation: First casting, emotions photoshoot and runway for Phillip Plein in Barcelona
- Original airdate: February 28, 2008
Out of 18.217 applicants, 120 girls from all over Germany, Austria and Swizzerland came to Cologne to convince the judges of their qualities as Germany's next topmodel.
Therefore, the young women had to walk down a runway either in a favourite outfit or bathsuit. In addition, they were undertaken little challenges: Some had to sing, dance or bluster, others sell a shampoo or even expose the preferences of a cleansing agent for toilets. In the meanwhile, the other contestants had to show three different emotions (anger, dolor and happiness) in a one-minute-photoshoot.
The judges narrowed down the competition to fifty girls, who flew to Barcelona in a surprise trip the next morning. They were booked for a runway show by Phillip Plein, a well-known designer, in the same evening. As most of the girls had not been very experienced in doing a runway show, some of them had severe problems on the catwalk which lead to several pitiable sights. In the end, 30 girls reached the next round.
