Germany's Next Topmodel (often abbreviated to GNT) is a German reality television show which pits contestants against each other in a variety of competitions to determine who will win title of Germany's Next Topmodel as well as a modelling contract with the IMG talent agency in hopes of a promising career start in the modeling industry.

Based on the concept of Tyra Banks's America's Next Top Model series, the show is hosted by supermodel Heidi Klum, who also serves as the lead judge and executive producer of the show.

Format

Each week, contestants were evaluated on their performance and faced possible elimination through a panel of judges. However, Germany has its town format of the show.

Differences between ANTM and GNTM

ANTM GNTM
  • The first episode starts with 30 something semi-finalists.
  • In the elimination process, Tyra Banks hands out the photograph of each contestant that is safe one-by-one while the whole cast is present.
  • Each week, two contestants are labelled as the “bottom two”. Banks critiques both of them before she reveals who is eliminated.
  • The final six contestants go to an international destination.
  • The final two remaining models compete in a runway, and the winner is decided in the judging room.
  • The first episode starts with highlights from a nationwide search, reducing to 25 semi-finalists before selecting the final 12 to 15 contestants.
  • In the elimination process, the contestants are sent to their dressing room backstage. Heidi Klum calls each model into the judging room one-by-one, giving her overall critique of the photo, and telling the contestant whether or not she is safe. Being the last one to be called in does not mean to be eliminated.
  • There is no regular number of international destinations. Cycle 1 went abroad three times, Cycle 2 went abroad six times.
  • The final three contestants compete in a runway and a photo shoot in front of live audience before the winner is revealed. The final show is recorded the afternoon before it broadcasts.
