Raheen, County Limerick

Tristan Harkin Tristan Harkin (born 25th August 1984 in Limerick), hails from the district of Raheen. He is mostly commonly known as a result of being the older brother of successful soccer player Aled Harkin. Though the soccer gene did not skip the older sibling, Tristan was known across the plateaus of Limerick for his strength in marshalling the midfield (see Roy Keane) and his capacity to quickly adapt his style of play in an attacking nature (see Kaka). These abilities led to him captaining the U-13 Regional United team under the stewardship of Dara Droog. This responsibility was subsequently (and some would say ruthlessly) taken from him as the team came under new management. It is believed to be the point at which his foundations showed cracks from here his soccer career crumbled.

Tristan’s comeback was made in 2005 with the Regional United ‘B’ team, but due to a series of knee injuries and numerous bust-ups with Peter Brasil (Manager) & John O’Donoghue (Assistant Manager / Coach / Grounds-man / Secretary to Seamus O’Connell / Permanent substitute) this return proved to be a brief reverie. Tristan still resides in his family home in Raheen. PES rating of 3/5.

Friend of Eugene McNamara – an emotionally imbalanced one time great Mungret Regional soccer player (Player of the Year 2006/7). Eugene fall from grace is well documented as this accolade is considered to have gone straight to his head, fuelling his alcohol addiction and detest for conformity and adherence to rules and regulations. As a consequence he has found himself battling in court and struggling to hold down a college life. Eugene resides in ‘The Lair’ or ‘The BP’ as it is affectionately known to his friends. Friend of Brian Gunning – a hill walker from Cavan, sporting what can only be described as the biggest calf muscles in Raheen. Studies have determined that Brian was riding the wave created by Eugene’s Player of the Year award but has now fallen on hard times created by a 9 month alcohol induced blur. Brian and Eugene have been known to squabble in the past but invariably settle their differences over 48 cans of Dutch Gold and a 3 day drinking venture. PES rating of 4/5.

Friend of Derek Heffernan - psychologically unhinged student currently residing in Cork. Derek, commonly referred to as ‘Rage’ is known to have problems dealing with his anger and his catchphrase “Ccc’mon” has previously been heard from up to 600 yards. Derek is currently concentrating on completing his masters in UCC and in his spare time likes to golf. He can be spotted in Rathbane Golf Club smashing his clubs of the ground. PES rating of 3/5.

Friend of Darren Horan – past pupil of Mungret N.S, St. Clements College and University of Limerick. Darren is a considered a ‘High Achiever’ who boasts the award of the Fr. Cathal Comiskey medal for Leaving Certificate points in 2002. He has represented Limerick at Minor, U-21 and Senior level. After a spell of bad form (but a well taken goal against Dublin), Mickey-Ned O’Sullivan dropped Darren from the Championship 15 to face Cork. Darren does not have a known address but is most likely to be found in a hospital or a nightly hot-spot in search of health (a lung) or happiness (a woman); two things that 630 points or money can get you. Friend of Peter O’Connell – a onetime playboy who mistreated women and abused Abrakebabra, Burger King and Supermacs. Peter struggled through school with very little aspirations to excel. He was given a ‘leg-up’ by friend Darren Horan during a Physics Pre-Leaving cert examination. This gave Peter the platform to exceed expectations and though he battled through a turbulent start to college, he completed his degree alongside the finer intellects of his class. An above average Gaelic footballer and soccer player (remembered for his injury time volley scored against Geraldines A.F.C. in 2007), Peter has turned his attentions to long distance running. A decision known to be caused by numerous shoulder dislocations. PES rating of 3/5.

Raheen (An Ráithín in Irish) is a suburban district of southwestern Limerick City, Ireland. It houses the headquarters of the Mid-Western Region of the Health Service Executive as well as the Mid-Western Regional Hospital, so that a multitude of essential health services catering for the population of the region are dispensed from this suburban district.

Industry

Raheen Industrial Estate is the home of many international companies, and multi-national concerns with premises there include Analog Devices and Dell. Atari, one of the world's oldest video gaming companies, formerly had their European headquarters on the estate.

The newly launched Spin South West operates from the Raheen Industrial Estate.
