A. Vijayaraj, popularly known as Vijayakanth (Tamil: விஜயகாந்த்), born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India on August 25, 1952, is a popular Tamil film actor and politician.

Personal

Born as Vijayaraj on August 25 1952 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. His parents are K.N. Alagarswami and Aandal. He married Premalatha Vijayakanth on January 31, 1990 and has two sons with her, Vijay Prabhakar and Shanmuga Pandian. He is nicknamed 'Captain', (often mis-pronounced as gapton) as he has starred in a popular movie called "Captain Prabhakharan". "Captain Prabhakharan" was commercially successful and Vijaykanth's 100th film. Of late he has stopped accepting offers from other producers and is keen on acting only in his own banner

Political Life

In 2006, Vijaykanth started a political party DMDK (Desia Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam) and contested in Tamil Nadu Elections. He won from Vridhachalam constituency which was considered a Vanniyar stronghold. Other members of his party did not win. He was able to secure around 8% votes from Vote on this election and in Local Election he got around 7%.most of the vote is from his Vote Bank.

Charity Work

• Donates sewing machines, tricycles, Iron Box, Idli Vessels, etc., to poor people of Naidu Community on his birthday.
• Helped Naidu students with good marks to join colleges and accommodates in his Engineering college without charging any fee from them.
• Donates Rs.25,000/- to Naidu school for every year.
• Donates Rs.50,000/- to Naidu Trusts in kovai.
• Donated Rs 2 lakhs to Naidu sangam in chennai.
• Donated Rs.5 Lakhs to Chandrababu Naidu for his party.
• Donated Rs.10 Lakhs to G.D.Naidu school's fire accident in erode.
• Donated Rs.10 Lakhs to Naidu welfare Association..
