Football

Michael Enfield (born July 19, 1983 in Ventura, California) is an American football (soccer) player, who currently plays for Sydney FC in the Australian A-League and previously played for the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer.

Club career

Enfield played college soccer at the University of California, Los Angeles for four seasons, from 2001-04. He appeared in 78 games for the Bruins, scoring 39 goals and assisting on 15. He was drafted in the second round, 15th overall, by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft, but waived at the end of the season.

Sydney FC

Enfield trialled with Australian side Sydney FC, throughout the second half of March 2007. In this time he played two 45 minute halves in trial games, firstly scoring against the Wollongong Wolves in a 3-2 victory and then having a hand in all three goals as Sydney beat the Marconi Stallions 3-0. On April 7 2007 it was announced that the former U.S. U-18 and U-20 international had signed a 2 year contract with the former A-League champions.[1] He made his debut for the club on 9 September 2007 against Template:ALeague PG,[2] coming on as a second-half substitute and becoming the first Jewish player in the A-League.[3]

In late September, a left knee injury suffered at training ended his season. Enfield underwent knee reconstruction surgery to repair tearing to both the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments, and is expected to return to training at Sydney in mid-2008.[4][5]

Because Enfield suffered the horrendus injury, his place in the team will be under consistant fire when he reterns to full fittness in mid-2008, as he will have to prove himself worthy of a permenent spot, due to large spending by Sydney during the offseason. He will be contending a place with recent signings John Aloisi (Central Coast Mariners), Mark Bridge (Newcastle Jets), and Simon Colosimo (Perth Glory)
