Template:Municipality of Slovenia

Audio file "Kranj.ogg" not found (formerly also known as Template:Lang-ger) is the third largest municipality and fourth largest city in Slovenia with a population of 53,000 (2007), located approximately 20km north-west of Ljubljana. The centre of the Upper Carniola region (northwestern Slovenia) is mainly an industrial city with strong electronics industry. It has a preserved medieval old town at the confluence of the Kokra and the Sava rivers.

Geography

The city lies on the busy Ljubljana - Jesenice - Villach (Austria) - Munich (Germany) railway and highway. Ljubljana airport (in Brnik) is also very close to Kranj.

Trivia

The historical region of Carniola (Kranjska in Slovenian) is named after the town, which was its provincial capital in the early Middle ages.
