John Longden (1898-1969) was an Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1951-1969.
Longden was born in Oldham, Lancaster, England. In 1909 he and his parents, who were all Latter-day Saints, moved from England to the United States. He had the oppotunity to meet Charles W. Penrose at the British Mission Office.[1]
From 1921-1924 Longden served as a missionary in the Central States Mission. From 1925-1930 he served as bishop of the 19th Ward in Salt Lake City.[2] For part of this time Frank I. Kooyman was one of Longden's counselors.[3]
