Disassembled is a crossover event between several Marvel Comics series. The general idea is that our heroes (the Avengers, Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four) are assaulted, not just physically, but emotionally.
The series begins with the Avengers, and this stems into the individual disassembly of Thor, Captain America and Iron Man. The Disassembled stories of Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four do not tie in, however and are stand-alone volumes, though under the same title. (The Disassembled graphic novels display the Avengers 'A' symbol on the spines, completed when all of the Avengers Disassembled books are displayed in order; Avengers, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man.)
One thing that separates this crossover from others is that Bendis has said that "not everyone is coming back from this one".
- Ant-Man II (Scott Lang) is blown up, by Jack of Hearts (Jack Hart)
- The Vision lands in a Quinjet only to attack the survivors of the explosion that destroyed half of the Avengers Mansion with a small army of Ultron Robots.
This attack sends She-Hulk into a frenzy, resulting in her tearing The Vision in two.
- She-Hulk's rage puts The Wasp (in a coma), Captain America (recovered) and Captain Britain III (status: critical) in hospital. Though the three are all recovered by Avengers Finale.
- Hawkeye sacrifices his life to save his friends, destroying the invading Kree warship.
As a result of these events, Yellowjacket and The Wasp (Hank and Janet Pym) have reconciled, and are retiring to give their relationship a real go. Captain Britain III (Kelsey Leigh) returns home to England. She-Hulk (Jennifer Walters) leaves the group, distraught with the guilt of what she did to the The Vision.
The Avengers part ways.
In the end, it was revealed that the Scarlet Witch was behind the random attacks, having been driven insane by the loss of her children. At the end of Avengers Disassembled she is whisked away by Magneto. Her storyline continues in the pages of Excalibur, which will lead in to the upcoming House of M miniseries, also written by Bendis.

Effects
In the wake of Avengers Disassembled two new Avengers series have been created. The New Avengers title replaces the Avengers title (with a new number 1 in December, 2004) which ends with issue #503 and Avengers Finale (November, 2004). This new title will continue with the current creative team of writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist David Finch.
The other title, premiering February, 2005, is the Young Avengers which will feature teenage heroes, each modelled on a founding member of the Avengers. This series will be written by Allan Heinberg, a writer for The OC, with art by Jim Cheung. Scott Lang's daughter, Cassie, has become a member of this team, seeking to carry on in her father's footsteps.
At the end of the story, the mad Scarlet Witch was rescued by her father, Magneto. This led into the Excalibur title, where he and Professor Xavier tried helping her, to no avail. The storyline continued in the House of M crossover event, which will tie together Astonishing X-Men and New Avengers.
