"Overprotected" is the third single from pop music singer Britney Spears released from the album Britney in December 2001 internationally.
The song
"Overprotected" is another product of the pop songwriting team made up of Max Martin and Rami, though the track was produced by Rodney Jerkins. The single was released in its original state internationally, but as the "Darkchild Remix" in the US. Thus, there were two different videos released to promote the song. Britney declares in the song that she is "overprotected" and explains to the world that she cannot find out who she is, where she needs to go and what she needs to do if she is restricted from certain experiences.
Britney sings in Eb Major here and hits notes Ab3 and C5.

Chart success
Despite its remixed state, "Overprotected" became another single on the steadily-increasing list of Spears' flops in the US, as its remix reached a peak of only #86 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #34 on the Top 40 Mainstream. The single was released as airplay-only in the US, meaning it had no commercial sales to help it climb the charts. The track failed to chart on the Hot 100 Airplay, but strangely still had enough points to chart on the Hot 100. This is a somewhat noteable feat, and would be repeated in much the same with "Outrageous" in 2004.
