US popularity
Crossover effect to mainstream audiences
Many electronic music enthusiasts tend to criticize the song for the effects of its popularity. While the song is actually of the trance genre, it is commonly mistaken to be techno. The song has also become a staple at school dances and on pop radio stations, opposite to the much more underground world of electronic music. The song itself has also spawned many remixes, some of which span genres outside of the electronica genre; it is frequently used for sampling.
Other than dance audiences
The song was featured in the home version of the game DDRMAX: Dance Dance Revolution, the 2005 film Fun with Dick and Jane and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and the first episode of Showtime's Queer as Folk. It was used in the Saturday Night Live skit called "The First Person In The History of the World to Dance." Japan, MMA fighter Wanderlei Silva uses it as his entrance theme. It is played occasionally at Dodger Stadium when a player from the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team hits a home run, as well as PETCO Park in San Diego when a player from the San Diego Padres does the same. It is also occasionally played at Shea Stadium by the New York Mets to get the crowd fired up during a rally. It is played during halftime at all University of Delaware and University of Dayton men's basketball games, and used as an entrance song by the Iran national football team at home games. Also, the song plays as part of the queueing sequence for Reese's Xtreme Cup Challenge, a dark ride by the Sally Corporation, at Hersheypark in Hershey Pennsylvania. Arenas in the National Hockey League often play the song during commercial breaks. Mega Match, a Venezuelan game show, uses this song as its background music. Watford Football Club also play it, as the players come onto the pitch, and it is played at Derby County FC. It is also played when the Lawrence Academy Spartans win. The song is played at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum when the New York Islanders are on the power play.
