The Robot Ate Me was an experimental rock band formed by Ryland Bouchard in 2002. The critically acclaimed albums alternate between accessible pop and obscure musical art projects that either tend to annoy or astonish. After releasing "Good World" in 2006 Babysue described the band as "one of the most unpredictable and obtuse underground bands around." In 2005, Bouchard moved to Anacortes, Washington then, in 2006, moved to Portland, Oregon where he currently lives. Bouchard has toured solo since 2005 and is known for having fairly unpredictable live performances. In 2003, Bouchard toured with David Greenberg, Are-Jay Hoffman and William Haworth. Also, the band Oh No! Oh My! got their name from The Robot Ate Me's song of the same name off of the album On Vacation.
On 23 August 2007 the band announced that it had ceased activities. The announcement was made by changing the headline on its myspace page to read: "no longer a band. thanks. bye". The band subsequently confirmed this on their official site on 25 November 2007.
