Justice (retd) Muhammad Taqi Usmani is a world renowned Islamic Scholar of Pakistan and has held a number of positions in boards of prestigious Islamic institution. Mr. Taqi Usmani has got his “Takhassus” degree in Islamic education, equivalent to PhD from Jamia Darululoom Karachi in 1961. He also holds a Master’s degree from Punjab University in Arabic Literature and LLB degree from Karachi University. Presently he is the Permanent member of International Islamic Fiqh Academy, Jeddah, Vice President of Jamia Darululoom Karachi, Chairman International Shariah Standard Council of Accounting and Auditing Organization of Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOFI), Bahrain. Chairman of Shariah Board Bahrain Monetary Agency (BMA) , Bahrain, Chairman of Shariah Board, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, UAE, Chairman of Shariah Board, Meezan Bank Ltd, Pakistan, Chairman of Shariah Board, Islamic House of Britian plc, UK, Chairman of Shariah Board,HSBC Amanah Finance, Dubai. Mr. Taqi Usmani had served as a Judge of Shariaht Appellate Bench, Supreme Court of Pakistan from 1982 to 2002 and Judge of Federal Shariaht Court of Pakistan from 1980 to 1982. Moreover, he has written a number of articles on Islamic Banking and Finance in numerous journals and magazines. He is also known for his ''Islahi Khutbat'' (Sermons educating Muslim to become better human beings). He was the key members of the team of scholars which helped declaring Ahmedeyya (Qadyanis) non Muslims by Pakistan's National Assembly during the era of Mr. Bhutto in late seventies. |
