The station went on the air as WBGA on [[1983-09-15]]. The Building on [[Blythe Island]] Georgia where the studios and transmitters were originally located were cheaply built; Once when the front door was closed too forcefully(i.e. Slammed) the front walls became disengaged from the building due to too much sand in the concrete. Quite a few Vinyl LP's were warped one summer by sunlight due to poor A/C despite being placed in the FM Control Room. The Control Boards on "Swinging Blythe Island' (WSBI) Were TEAC 4 Channel Mixing boards,unsuited to On-air use. 100.7, still licensed to Brunswick had a short stick and suffered from short stick envy. Also, in the mid 80's, a WMOG sticker was located in the toilet bowl in the restroom that was located in the building, situated behind the WBGA/WGIG 1440 transmitter so that employees could express their opinion of WMOG. Tim Tayshion, Kevin the B, Bill Edwards, and Sid were notable personalities on WBGA in the mid 80's. [[1987-08-29]], the station changed its call sign to the current WGIG and news talk. John Gregory, et al. hastened the decline.
