Charlie Black is a former lobbyist and current campaign adviser for Senator John McCain. In May, 2008, liberal special interest group Moveon.org ran an advertisement accusing Black of having lobbied for several dictators, including Mobutu of Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Lobbying activity

Black was a partner in BKSH & Associates. During his time there, the firm did work for Ferdinand Marcos of the Phillipines . Black claims that while BKSH was working in the Phillipines, Marcos was democratically elected, and that after Marcos gained reelection through fraud, the firm terminated their working relationship. Critics point out, however, that BKSH worked for Marcos in this early Eighties, while the regime had been plagued by charges of misrule and corruption at least since Marcos declared martial law in 1972.^[1] According to Black, the United States State Department urged him to work with Mobuto Sese Seko in holding a democratic election. Mobutu cancelled the election results and Black's firm again terminated their relationship. ^[2] Black has also been criticized for work he did for Jonas Savimbi of Angola ^[3] and the Reverend Sun Myung Moon, ^[4] among others.
