The Eurovision Dance Contest 2008 will be the second Eurovision Dance Contest and will be held in Glasgow,[1] United Kingdom, hosted by the BBC[2] on the 6th of September.[3]

Participants

According to the 2007 rules Section 2.2[4] on the official website, all entrants in the Eurovision Dance Contest 2007 agreed to take part in 2008 when signing up for the first contest. Albania, Armenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Cyprus, Iceland, Israel and FYR Macedonia are planning to make their début in 2008 after broadcasting the 2007 contest.[5][6][7] However, the admission of new countries will depend on whether the European Broadcasting Union decides to expand the contest and what the maximum number of participants will be.

It is possible, though, that the 2008 contest will be kept by 'invitation only' as was the case for Eurovision Dance Contest 2007, for which all participating broadcasters were specially invited by the EBU on account of their ability to finance the event. [8]

Even though a two year contract has been signed some rumours also claim that Switzerland will leave the contest but SFDRS has not yet confirmed this piece of information.[9]

Possible new participants

The following countries (except Croatia and Slovenia) also broadcast the first contest[12] and therefore may take part in 2008. Croatia showed interest when the Eurovision Dance Contest was originally discussed; however, it decided not to take part in 2007 owing to the financial implications and scheduling problems[citation needed]. Slovenia may also participate as it appeared in preliminary participant lists for the 2007 contest.[13][14]
