Plot
Survivor count: 39,665
The Cylons decide to take President Roslin and the other Colonials aboard the Basestar hostage to bargain for the four of the final five currently on the Battlestar Galactica.
Tory uses the President's medication as an excuse to go aboard the Basestar with D'Anna, but the other three remain anonymous.
Colonel Tigh then admits to Admiral Adama that he is a Cylon, offering himself as a hostage and revealing the identity of the others. A tense standoff ensues, with Tigh and the others placed in an airlock aboard Galactica, and the Cylons training their nuclear weapons on the civilian Colonial ships.
Meanwhile, Starbuck discovers that the Viper that she brought back is now receiving a Colonial transponder signal, presumably from Earth. She stops Lee Adama from killing Tigh, and the Colonials and Cylons come to an agreement: they will go to Earth together as allies, not enemies.
The Colonials and rebel Cylons successfully jump to Earth, and break into jubilant celebration. The fleet is seen arriving into what appears to be low Earth Orbit although no clear views of the planet's continents were shown, in contrast to the view given at the end of season three.
Upon landing, however, they discover that the planet has apparently been devastated by a nuclear war. A scanner indicates the soil is irradiated and no animal or plant life is immediately visible in the area, aside from small weeds and grasses growing among the rubble. The episode ends with a sweeping view of the ruins of a city by the sea.
