Savinac is large residential and park complex on Vracar plateau in Belgrade named after Saint Sava, whose remains supposedly, were burned here, in 1595.
Older name was Englezovac meaning "Englishtown" after a Scottish Francis Mackenzie, who donated a piece of land to Serbian Orthodox Church for the construction of Temple of Saint Sava, here.
Hystoricaly, Savinac represented geographical end opposite to Kalemegdan – on Belgrade's line Kalemegdan - Trg republike - Terazije - Beogradjanka - Slavija – Savinac where central line - tram no.1 used to run, in the first half of 20th century.
