Resistance 2 (working title) is an upcoming science fiction first person shooter video game for the PlayStation 3.[3] It is currently in development by Insomniac Games, and will continue to be published by Sony Computer Entertainment America. The game is scheduled for a European release in November 2008 and a North American release in Fall 2008.[2][1] The game is a sequel to the 2006 launch title Resistance: Fall of Man. The first teaser trailer had its debut on the April 11th edition of GameTrailers TV, which also told of a trailer featuring gameplay to arrive on June 13th only on GameTrailers.[4] Despite claims of the marketing boss of SCE, Scott Steinberg, Insomniac has not stated that the game will be put onto a 50GB Blu-ray DL.[5]

Plot

The player will face the Chimera once again.

The plot is a direct continuation of the Resistance: Fall of Man storyline. The game starts in a snow covered field in London with a Black Ops VTOL aircraft taking Sgt. Nathan Hale to the base of the Special Projects Research Administration (SPRA) in Iceland. Hale arrives at the base and discovers that there are others like him that are resistant to the Chimera virus who have been collected together from around the world by the SPRA. The result is a task force called 'The Sentinels'. The base then comes under attack by Chimera forces and 'The Sentinels' manage to escape to the United States. Two years after the Chimeran defeat in Great Britain, the Chimera launch a full-scale aerial invasion on both the east and west coasts of the United States.[6] [7]

It has been indicated that the plot of Resistance 2 will drop the third person narration and follow the role of Sgt. Nathan Hale much more closely, as well as shedding new light onto where the Chimera originated from, and answering more questions from the first game. [8] Also Captain Rachel Parker will not be returning in Resistance 2 and the Cloven are involved in the war against the Chimera but will not be in the United States [[1]].

Features

The game will feature two campaigns. A single player campaign which will follow the story of Nathan Hale, and an up to eight player online co-operative (or two player split screen) campaign that will have a storyline running parallel to Hale's campaign. Both campaigns will also include boss-battles. One of the bosses is the Leviathan, a Godzilla looking monster, and that the biggest boss is over 300 feet high [[2]]. The co-operative campaign will support up to 8 players online with classes including a medic class, a heavy weapons class, and a special ops class. The online multiplayer aspect of the game will support up to 60 players online.[9] The game will also feature 12 new Chimeran enemies, two of which will be called the Chameleon (which can cloak itself completely, charge toward you, and kill the player in one hit) and the Grim (which is a melee fighter that attacks in hordes, similar to the Gray Jack in the first game). [10][11] There are seven currently known weapons in Resistance 2. These will be wielded in pairs instead getting to choose from multiple weapons. The Fareye, Bullseye, Carbine, Auger, and Rossmore, will be returning with some new modifications.[12] New weapons include a long range semi-automatic rifle called "The Marksman" and the "Minigun" a minigun which has a secondary fire option that allows it to act as a shielded sentry gun. Also the Hybrids will have some advanced armor seen in some images.[13][14]

Locations

Resistance 2 will be set in the United States, although the first level takes place in Iceland. As of now, the only confirmed location in the game is Chicago. Although there are hints that the player will also be able to play in San Francisco and the California redwoods.
