'Paul Debruyn was a German Navy sailor and athlete who became the first runner from outside North America to win the Boston Marathon in 1932. Debruyn defeated defending champion Jimmy Henigan, pulling ahead through the final two miles of the race. Henigan finished only 56 seconds behind Debruyn. The Paul Debruyn memorial 30k race is held annually in Ponce Inlet, Florida, to commemorate Debruyn.
