Undiscussed attempted closure of DART station article / merger with host district
Hi! Good to have a new member on board, and active in the Irish wikipedia space these last six weeks. However, you made a change earlier today which should not have been made without consultation, and considerable thought, in redirecting Raheny railway station (a DART station with occasional mainline stops). You then merged the main content into a newly-created section of the Raheny district article (although transport was already present, with paragraphs on the various types in the "Location and access" section - if the change were going ahead, the material would simply have gone here, perhaps with a new 3rd level heading).
As a minimum, this change should have been raised for discussion on the Talk pages of both Raheny and Raheny railway station. In fact, for such changes, there is a specific template -
It has been suggested that be merged into this page. (Discuss) |
and
It has been suggested that this page be merged into . ([[|Discuss]]) |
. You would state your reasoning, perhaps specifically notify people visible in the history of either page as having done significant work, and wait for debate (min. 1 week). Absent that discussion, and also taking account of the fact that Raheny is served by three stations, I have reversed the changes.
But there is an additional factor here. Most railway stations are part of a district. But all stations have their own articles. And if you merged one, we would have to consider merging all. And that would be a huge disruption across all of Dublin, and beyond. And what would we do with areas served by multiple stations, or stations serving multiple areas? And we would lose the functionality of the (next stop) - Station - (previous stop) structure at the bottom of each station page (this, like the rail stub tag, both of which you carried into the Raheny article, is not appropriate to a district article). So to make a change to the way we do stations in Dublin, you would need to open a wider debate on an Ireland-level page. Sorry for such a long note, and I do assume you meant this in good faith, but please open a debate first next time. In the meantime, there is plenty to do in the Ireland space, many fine articles in need of improvement (and more to be written). All the best, SeoR (talk) 18:17, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of RTÉ Radio, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Radio Telefís Éireann. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.
