Rockland Trust Company
Rockland Trust Company[1] is a commercial bank based in Rockland, Massachusetts that serves Southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod. Established in 1907[2] as Rockland Trust Company, it is one of few local banks that retain their original name and independent ownership after more than 100 years. (Rockland Trust Company is the wholly-owned subsidiary of Independent Bank Corp.,[3] which is publicly traded on NASDAQ (INDB).) Rockland Trust is the largest publicly traded commercial bank headquartered in Massachusetts, with $3.2 billion in assets and over 900 employees, and a network of more than 60 retail branches.
On December 8, 1917, the bank opened a new Colonial Georgian building at 288 Union Street, Rockland, and the bank’s corporate headquarters were housed there until 2008 (when they moved to Hanover, Massachusetts). A busy branch and offices still enjoy their location in the historic building.
