The Primera División Apertura 2008 is a Mexican football tournament; one of two tournaments held each year. The tournament will begin on 2008-07-26 and will run until 2008-12-07. The 18 teams of the Primera División will each play 17 matches, playing each team once. The top two teams in each group will qualify directly to the Liguilla (playoffs), as well as the two best third place teams in the regular table. In past tournaments, the four best teams after the six group leaders would qualify to the Repechaje (playoff qualifiers). The two teams that were victorious would qualify to the Liguilla along with the six group leaders. The Repechaje was discontinued after the Clausura 2008 tournament. The Indios (Indians) of Ciudad Juárez were promoted to the Primera División after beating León in the Primera División A promotion final. The Tiburones Rojos (Red Sharks) of Veracruz were relegated to Primera División A after having the worst points to games ratio over the previous six tournaments.
