The Israeli diaspora refers both to a diaspora, or migration, of Israeli-born people to other countries and the descendants of such migrants, whether they were born in Israel or in another country. The Israeli diaspora is different from the Jewish diaspora in that, while the majority of members of the Jewish diaspora have not immigrated to the State of Israel or obtained citizenship in Israel, the members of the Israeli diaspora either have either been born or resided in Israel or are directly-descended from those who were born or resided in the State. This definition of the Israeli diaspora extends to those of Jewish ethnoreligious ancestry who were born in Israel's historical antecedent, the British Mandate of Palestine but had immigrated out of the Mandate prior to the 1948 declaration of the State of Israel, and doesn't extend to those in the Jewish diaspora whose ancestors had resided in Israel in ancient times.
Compared to the much-larger population of the worldwide Jewish diaspora, the Israeli diaspora is smaller in worldwide population.
