Yop, created and marketed by Yoplait, is a yoghurt drink that is available in supermarkets, and some stores, across the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Switzerland and Canada.
Making Yop
Yop is made from milk which is heated at 90°C in order to kill off any harmful bacteria. Once heated it is then cooled down to 45°C and placed in incubation tanks. Friendly bacteria are added, which cause Lactic acid to be formed from the lactose in the milk. After this, the lactic acid forms the yogurt drink texture. In total, this process takes 8 hours to complete. The yogurt drink is soon ready once the recommended pH level has been reached. The yogurt drink is then cooled (to halt the bacteria growth) and flavourings are added.
Flavours
The flavours of Yop available in Canada are Strawberry, Raspberry, Blueberry, Peach, Vanilla and Strawberry-Banana. Yop Frusion, orange, mango and banana flavoured yop, were released in Ireland in July 2005.
Yop Strawberry-Vanilla is also available in Ireland.
