Moldova is famous for its wine. Many families have their own recipes and strands of grapes that have been passed on through generations. One can not visit a family without being offered their wine. Several brands have been exported to bordering countries. The most famous, Cricova, is also exported to the United States.

Moldavian "Milestii Mici" Collection Put on Guinness Book as Europe's Largest

The Moldavian wine collection "Milestii Mici" has been awarded ISO-9001 certificate as Europe's largest; the Guinness Book commission took nearly a year to consider the MM application, company CEO Mihail Maciuc told a news conference Thursday.

"The declared collection comprises 1.5 mln bottles; this week the official Guinness certificate has finally arrived," Maciuc said.

Stretching foR 200 Km, of which only 50 km are currently in use, the Milestii Mici cellar complex is also the largest in Europe.

Overall, the complex holds nearly 2 mln bottles dating back to the XX century 80's. More than 70% of the stored wines are red, 20% are white and about 10% are dessert ones. The most valuable items of this collection, 480 euros a bottle, were produced in 1973-74; they are now exported only to Japan.
