Hellboy: Wake the Devil is a comic book mini-series in the Hellboy franchise, conceived and illustrated by Mike Mignola and published by Dark Horse Comics. Various elements and section of plot were later used in the animated film Hellboy: Blood and Iron.
Plot
After a murder in a New York City wax museum, Hellboy and additional B.P.R.D. agents are sent to investigate a series of abandoned sites in Romania linked to the legend of Vladimir Giurescu, a vampire nobleman whose missing body has been tied to the murder, initially reported to have been the work of the Nazi scientists Ilsa Haupstein, Leopold Kurtz and Karl Ruprecht Kroenen who are preparing the return of their occult master Rasputin, along with the appearance of Hecate. During the investigations by Liz Sherman, Bud Waller and Sidney Leach, they stumble upon an old lab where Roger the Homunculus makes his first appearance.
