Arab International University, also known by AIU (AEU:Arab European University formely) is a private university. It was founded in 2004 by a team of professors who left Damascus University. A lot of students registered in AIU as it was the first university to establish near the capital.
Location The Arab International University(AIU) locates on the road between Damascus and Daraa, at about (37) kilometers from Damascus. The whole area of the campus is (211,000) square meters. The AIU future plans involve constructing many other buildings. It seeks to make a campus which is especially distinctive in form and size.
The students at AEU have special significance and care. The AEU's first priority is to take care of its students academically, educationally, socially and culturally and as follows : High selection of most professional and experienced teachers from Arab and foreign countries has been adopted. English as a first language is used for teaching most of the courses. There are particular courses taught in Arabic, but these courses are very limited. A student can, however, adopt other languages as learning means for the specialty he/ se likes to attend. All students should be well – qualified in English during a period of not more than one semester. This enables students to attend effectively to lectures, discussions and academic arguments. Again, such an objective can be attained by relying on elite teachers who are linguistically proficient and native – like speakers of English. All kinds of academic guidance and advice for students will be given. This is based on well – experienced teachers and experts who are always ready to give support in this regard. Again, this extends to involve the teacher – student relationship. Enough support for practical skills, achieved through well – prepared training courses enables all students to join practical life with high confidence and capability. A close link with public and private institutions of society in order to provide AEU students with all available field training opportunities and, in return, let them acquainted by those institutions, as a forward step for involving them in future work opportunities. Early construction and activation of scientific research labs at the AEU campus. All students are to participate in research projects proposed in Syria or through cooperation with foreign co – universities. Constant material and moral support for academically distinctive students. Encouraging students in sport, cultural and social activities, and providing them with proper ground for better practice and participation. AEU takes care of its students and considers them as sons and daughters, not just as students who are going to spend some years at the university campus and then transfer to another field of life. Accordingly, great efforts are made by AEU to find work opportunities to its students. The high care enjoyed by the students at university will extend to involve their future work after graduation. Such care is interpreted in the following:
- Reinforcement of work links between AEU and public as well as private institutions. This is highly practiced through field training AEU students and graduates will receive at these institutions.
- Establishing a special unit whose main task is to join AEU with society, and reinforce the university role in achieving the projects that better serve the national development, and thus finding appropriate work opportunities for the students.
- Giving priority to AEU distinctive students to finish their Master and Doctor Grades at the AEU expenses. Then, the postgraduates will be appointed as teachers in this university.
- Effective participation of AEU staff, students and graduates in scientific research projects with other European, Arab and Syrian co – universities.
- Establishing a career centre whose main task is to find appropriate work opportunities for AEU graduates.
AEU provides its students with daily transport between various areas in Damascus and the AEU site in Ghabaghib. Thus, several trips by special and highly comfortable buses (one trip per hour a day) according to students' time tables are made. Also, proper accommodation with comfortable services and reasonable costs for those students coming from areas which are far away from AEU site is provided. Moreover, AEU provides its students with the most appropriate services such as: Reading halls.
- University Restaurant and Cafeteria
- Halls for Internet and Email services.
- Appropriate Halls for Sport and Cultural Activities in addition to the proper Stadiums.
- Beautiful Gardens.
- Students' Library Services which involve electronic publications and most up – to – date encyclopedias, dictionaries, books and variety of periodicals.
