Edward Ng

Dr Edward Ng (Chinese伍煒國) is noted for his broad variety of mathematical applications in space science and engineering. He has also been a conscientious practitioner in the spin-off outreach of the space program, with applications in such diverse subjects as Bose-Einstein functions in mathematical physics, symbolic and algebraic computation, computational physics and biomedical materials research. He received his PhD degree in astronomy/applied mathematics from Columbia University. He has been employed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory(JPL) of the California Institute of Technology, under contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He retired in 2006. Dr. Edward W Ng was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and is cited in the American Men and Women of Science. He was the editor of "Symbolic and Algebraic Computation", a Monograph published by Springer Verlag. He has published a number of journal and conference articles in various mathematical applications of space sciences and engineering (selected list in 'external link' below). His papers have appeared in Astrophysical Journal, Mathematics of Computation, Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy, Journal of Computational Physics, M.I.T. Journal of Mathematics and Physics , ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software and Computers and Mathematics with Applications. Ng was born in 1939, grew up in Hong Kong and came to the US for college and post-graduate education. He attended the Queen Elizabeth School, Hong Kong for secondary education, and the University of Minnesota for tertiary education. He is married to Grace, and has 3 sons: Elliott (married to Karen), Stanley (married to Tammy) & Chester.
