St.Theresa Catholic Secondary School is a Roman Catholic Secondary School located in Belleville, Ontario. It operates under the direction of the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board. The school is named after the patron Saint, St. Theresa (1873-1897). St. Theresa C.S.S. is a uniform school.

History

St. Theresa C.S.S. opened its doors in September 1998. The 2008-2009 School year marks the 10th Anniversary of the school.

Administration

There are currently over 60 teaching staff, 6 support staff and 2 Administrators.

Academics

All student who attend St. Theresa Catholic Secondary School are taught under the Ontario Secondary Curriculum. From 2002 to 2004 St. Theresa C.S.S. has had success rates below 80%. As of the 2007 school year the success rate is up to 92%.[1]

Facilities

St.Theresa C.S.S. is equipped with a wide range of athletic facilities. Because of the school's close location to the Yardmen Arena, that is used for the Canadian Hockey Skills Academy classes. Because of the growing student population a new wing was built, housing a new art studio, office and life skills room. The wing was officially opened during the 2005 school year. [3]

St. Theresa C.S.S. also has an off campus Tech building on the grounds of The Sir James Whitney School. Mechanics, cosmetology and Co-op programs are taught in the building.

Special Events

Every year the Renaissance Society of St. Theresa holds a conference "Celebrating Canadian Culture: Past, Present and Future". The conference has been running for 3 years now and has famous guest speakers such as author Frances Itani to speak about her novel. [4]

Athletics

On March 20,2008 the Boys Hockey team won the 2008 COSSA title, winning 8-3 against Holy Cross Secondary School (Peterborough). [5]

Extracurricular activities

There are many clubs and organizations within the school community. There are four main groups which keep events running for the student body. These four groups are known as "The Four Pillars" they include: ICE (Intramural Council Executive), JEDI (Social Justice Group), Student Council(formally S-Unit) and The Broadcast Club (STBC TV)

Other than the four main groups there are many other organizations and clubs such as: Band, Choir, Dance Team (Jr. & Sr.), Drama Club, Green Team, Habitat For Humanity, Reach For The Top, R.I.C.K. (Book Club), Ski Team, Travel Club, Titanium (School Newspaper), Board Game Society, Renaissance Historical Society and Yearbook.
